Inconsistent Speech Disorder Assessment - Free Resource
I hope you'll find this resource helpful! (Scroll to the bottom for download).
An inconsistency assessment relates to the consistency of speech production for the same word across three repetitions. This assessment can form part of a wider battery of tests to differentially diagnose Speech Sound Disorders. This is an informal version (created by A Pinch of SaLT), a standardised inconsistency assessment can be found in the The Diagnostic Evaluation of Articulation and Phonology (DEAP) (Dodd et al. 2006).
In this assessment the client is asked to name 25 pictures on three separate occasions. Then their consistency score is calculated. Inconsistent Speech Disorder is considered if they have at least 40% of words produced variably (Dodd, 2005).
There is a data sheet and stimulus booklet (powerpoint). Ask the client to name the pictures in the book (powerpoint) and transcribe their answers. Do this 3 times with a break in between each cycle, the client can take a break, play a game etc. If the client cannot name the item the clinician can provide ‘clues’ to facilitate the word retrieval e.g. ‘you find it in a kitchen’, ‘it’s not a knife, it’s a ___’. Do not tell the client the word as then they are copying your model rather than accessing their representation of the word.
Printing instructions
You can use the powerpoint as it is, however if you wish to print it you need to print it as 2 slides per page, portrait, and print on one side of the page. Then you can cut the pages in half and bound the pages as a book.
