Want to get to know A Pinch of SaLT?

A Pinch of SaLT began in 2018 with 2 recently(ish) newly graduated Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs), Tara and Hannah, sharing information for parents and clinicians alike. Overtime this has developed to sharing resources and information mostly for professionals including SaLTs.

Hannah left to pursue a career outside of Speech and Language Therapy and stepped back from A Pinch of SaLT in 2023, leaving Tara full control and full of trepidation! I miss you Hannah!

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and I graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2015. I currently work as Head of Therapies in a secondary school, where I manage a team of Allied Health Professionals as well as working alongside other professionals such as Educational Psychologists, CAMHS, Teachers and Teaching Assistants. I also enjoy taking on Speech and Language Therapy placement students throughout the academic year.

One of my favourite things about my job is that there are always new things to learn. My specialist interests are  in Learning Disabilities across the lifespan, learning theory, and literacy. I have supported newly qualified clinicians through their competencies (in the UK) and I also provide clinical supervision. I enjoy both the clinical aspects and non-clinical aspects of the job and sharing the latter on this website through resources and blog posts.

I believe that the best kind of support and intervention is person centred and part of a wider team to support the child or young person. I have two quotes that I use almost daily that are:

‘You can do hard things!’

and

‘When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.’’  ― Alexander Den Heijer
